I've been keeping track of my expenditures lately just to see where my money goes. I've discovered that the time I spent deliberating and stressing out about purchases (like feeling guilty for getting a latte) is completely disproportional to the expense. For example, I really will stress about a latte and then go out to dinner and drop $40 without thinking twice.
Another discovery: I prefer to think of some expenditures, including yoga classes and Lush bath bombs, as investments rather than consumption. Because they make my life better. Does that sound reasonable?
This weekend will be full of more of those types of "investments" because I'm visiting my sister at college with my mom! We will definitely be investing in some manicures and pedicures, for starters.

My spending diary

It's like massages: can't we consider those investments towards having a good week and feeling calmer.
And expensive brow waxing: as investments into feeling beautiful and more confident at work!
Oh- the way I think about the cost of yoga: it takes about 10 yoga classes to equal the cost of a one hour massage! Now that makes yoga seem cheap (and cost effective for all the benefits received!)
Quality not quantity is always important! What provides you with more personal satisfaction; the latte or dinner with great company?
I think I operate that way too: there is almost no amount I don't consider worthwhile for yoga workshops etc, but I really really have to think about buying a new dress. Weird huh?
I love the investment model...it helps me tell the difference between impulse purchases and things I'll look back on and be glad I spent the money. Food rarely makes the cut because I tend to go for things that are still tangible over time...just a personal quirk :)
that's funny that you say food rarely makes the cut, because in my world, consumables are worth it for the experience- especially if it involves making memories with people I love. I try to minimize the stuff in my life to simplify... easier said than done because I'll definitely splurge on some high thread count sheets- investment in my sleep is paramount!
Fashion and style is NOT about one size fits all. Truthfully it's about loving yourself, being healthy and knowing what works for you. Dont fall into the "Media" idea of what is Beauty, know that YOU as a Human and Individual are SEXY and Beautiful! --- http://www.plusmingle.com
